When you plant matters as much as what you plant

You can do everything right and still feel like the garden is working against you. The seeds go in, but germination is patchy. The harvest comes, but it doesn't keep. You know there's a rhythm underneath all of this. You can feel it. But you're guessing at it, season after season.

Most of us learn to garden by the weather and the calendar on the wall. That gets you part of the way. But there's an older timing beneath the seasons, one that growers have followed for thousands of years: the rhythm of the moon.

Ignore it and you're rowing against the current. Small things go slightly wrong and you can't quite say why. Work with it and the garden starts to meet you halfway. Seeds come up stronger. Harvests store longer. The whole practice begins to feel less like effort and more like partnership.

This calendar hands you that timing, ready to use, every single day.

A calmer, more confident way to grow

I built this because I wanted my own growing to be led by rhythm rather than rush.

Open it in the morning and you'll know exactly what today is for. A root day for your root herbs and vegetables. A flower day for blooms. A leaf day for greens. A fruit day for anything you grow for its seed or fruit. No cross-referencing, no second-guessing.

Over a season, that daily clarity adds up. You stop scattering your effort across jobs that would land better on another day. You sow when the plant is primed to grow, and harvest when it's primed to keep. And you build a record of what you did and what the garden gave back, so next year starts from knowledge instead of memory.

It won't do the digging for you. But it will make sure the effort you put in is landing at the right moment. For a lot of growers, that's the difference between a garden that drains them and one that feeds them.

What is biodynamic growing?

Biodynamic growers work with the lunar calendar to choose the best days for each kind of garden task. The idea is simple. As the moon moves through the twelve signs of the zodiac, each day takes on a quality that favours a particular part of the plant.

Root days favour root vegetables and root herbs. Flower days bring out the best in flowering plants. Leaf days suit leafy crops and foliage. Fruit days are ideal for anything grown for its seed or fruit. Each of these follows an element: earth days for roots, water days for leaf, air days for flower, fire days for fruit.

Two rhythms run underneath. The moon's phase, waxing then waning, tells you whether energy is rising toward growth or settling downward, which is why the waning moon is often the better time to harvest for storage. And the moon's monthly climb and fall through the sky, its ascending and descending arc, tells you when the sap is high and best for sowing, and when it has drawn down and favours planting out and feeding the soil.

Align your sowing, tending and harvesting with these rhythms and you're working with the plant's own timing rather than against it.

I've been growing medicinal herbs this way for many years. This calendar is the tool I always wanted and could never find, so in the end I made it myself.

What's in the calendar
🌙 Moon Calendar

A full monthly view with every day colour-coded by biodynamic type: root, flower, leaf, or fruit. Moon phase and zodiac sign shown for each date. Small arrows mark whether the moon is ascending or descending, and an open circle marks the quiet node rest days. Navigate month by month, and print a physical copy if you like.

🌿 Plant Guide

Detailed growing profiles for 53 herbs and vegetables. Each entry covers the best biodynamic days for sowing and harvesting, sow windows, harvest timing, soil and sun requirements, growth habit, and medicinal or culinary use.

Today's Tasks

The app opens here. Today's date, today's moon phase, today's day type, and the specific plants best worked with right now. No searching, no cross-referencing. Just open it and go.

📅 Seasonal Timeline

A year-at-a-glance view showing the full growing arc of every plant across all twelve months, useful for planning successions and understanding the rhythm of the year as a whole.

🌍 Northern & Southern Hemisphere

Set the calendar to your half of the world with a single tap. The seasonal timeline and growing windows shift by six months, so sowing and harvest fall in the right months whether you garden north or south of the equator. The moon itself, its phase, sign and rhythm, stays true wherever you stand.

✏️ Garden Notes

Tap any day to add a personal note: what you sowed, what you observed, what the garden offered. A small gold dot marks any date with a note, so your growing record is visible at a glance. Notes are saved in your browser on the device you use. They are private, work offline, and need no account. They stay on that device, so they won't appear elsewhere, and clearing your browser storage removes them.

☀️🌙 Day and Night Display

Toggle between a deep teal dark mode, easy on the eyes in the evening or low light, and a clean white light mode for bright conditions. The app remembers your preference.

Why perpetual is important

Most planting calendars expire. You buy a new one every January, and what you learned from last year's is locked in a book you've already recycled.

This calendar never expires. The astronomical calculations run in real time, so it's as accurate in five years as it is today. Pay once and use it for every growing season from here on. The two companion tools come with it at no extra cost.

At €19 it costs less than one printed calendar - and after the first year, it's already paid for itself.

Two free tools included

Both are browser-based and work on any device. No installation, no additional accounts.

Lunar Phase Tracker

A simple, focused tool for tracking the moon day by day. It shows the current phase, where you are in the lunar cycle, and gives you a clean at-a-glance view of the month. Useful as a daily reference, or as a quieter companion to the full biodynamic calendar on days when that's all you need.

Companion Planting & Crop Rotation Helper

Good companions make a real difference - to pest pressure, soil health, and how plants use space. This tool lets you select any herb or vegetable and see instantly what grows well alongside it, what to keep it away from, and how to rotate it through your beds year to year. Covers both medicinal herbs and vegetables, and works directly alongside the planting calendar.

If you grow herbs and vegetables at home and want to do it better.

This is for people who grow medicinal herbs and want to bring more intention to that practice. It works just as well for vegetable growers. You don't need prior knowledge of biodynamics - the app explains everything as you use it - but if you're already familiar with the principles, you'll find the depth here that most tools don't offer.

🌱 You do not need any background in astrology or biodynamics to use this calendar. If you can read a date, you can use it.

A note on the tradition behind this calendar

The biodynamic growing calendar is rooted in the work of Austrian philosopher and scientist Rudolf Steiner, who first articulated the principles of biodynamic agriculture in 1924, and was developed into practical planting guidance by German researcher Maria Thun, who spent decades observing and documenting the relationship between moon cycles and plant growth. Their work built on millennia of traditional knowledge: from the Roman agricultural writers who advised sowing by the moon, to indigenous traditions such as the Maori Maramataka, which mapped planting and harvesting across the full lunar year. This calendar draws from that long lineage and brings it into a form that works for the modern home grower.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know astrology to use this?

Not at all. The calendar does all the calculation for you. All you need to do is check the day type and follow the guidance.

Is this based on real astronomical data?

Yes. The calendar uses the Meeus astronomical algorithm to calculate the moon's actual position in the zodiac in real time. It is accurate and updates every day automatically.

Does it work for my climate?

The sowing and harvest windows in the Plant Guide are calibrated for a temperate Northern Hemisphere climate. If you are gardening in a different region, you may need to adjust the seasonal timing, but the biodynamic day types and moon phases apply universally.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The calendar is fully responsive and works on any smartphone, tablet or desktop browser. No download or app installation is needed.

Is this a subscription?

No. It is a one-time purchase with permanent access. There is no renewal fee and no expiry date.
